The project Sardinia for all - Accessibile tourism, founded by POR ESF Sardegna 2000-2006,
aims to enrich Sardinia tourism offer, contributing to stimulate the development of a tourism culture sensitive to all different needs.
Accessibility, for Sardinia for all, means exactly this: to allow everybody to travel thanks to a selection of hosting organizations suitable to take
care of every single need, hosting and satisfying all "different" exigencies.
We are thinking about people with disabilities, large families, couples with small children, pregnant women, elder travelers, people with healthy problems, all having in common the need of structures with tailored services suitable to allow them to spend a relaxed holiday.
Accessibility for us is not an additional issue or a cultural annex: it is the core objective of our activity.
The Sardinia for all portal selects tourist structures in the Province of Sassari which offer hosting services suitable to answer the needs of all kind of tourists.
Selected accommodation, which have been included in the portal after a survey on the territory, share with Sardinia for all the "accessibility objective". Thanks to contacts and cooperation relationships activated during project lifespan, we will promote specific activities aiming to strengthen the importance of the concept of "accessibility" and to diffuse practices aiming to improve the quality of tourism in Sardinia. Actually there are relevant founds at European, national and regional level designated to support the reconverting of accommodation in order to make them more adapt to answer to people with disabilities specific needs. Offering accessible structures as well as tailored information represents an added value for potential clients as well as a competitive advantage for accommodation.
In the European Union people with disabilities represent an important market share, constantly increasing, both in the area of pleasure and business travels.
In the EU around 37 millions of people have disabilities and, considering that the average age of the population is increasing, this number itself is going to increase.
In Europe around 120 millions of people, with disabilities or belonging to the eldest age, would benefit from an higher level of accessibility. Studies have demonstrated that people with disabilities are fond clients and often return where they find an high degree of accessibility. Furthermore other groups of people would benefit of an higher level of accessibility: these are parents with children, people suffering from some kind of disease, people with bulky luggage.
Supplying better information on accessibility thus means to reach a consistent amount of potential clients.
